Kunsthall Stavanger is currently closed for the installation of a new exhibition, Frail Mighty, opening on November 1, 2018, at 6pm. This autumn, Kunsthall Stavanger is launching a new series of exhibitions in which artist-run spaces are invited to present a project within our galleries. Concurrently, we invite the artists who run the venues to present their own artwork as well, highlighting the relationship between curatorial and creative practices. Frail Mighty is the inaugural exhibition in the series, and is curated by Stavanger-based gallery Prosjektrom Normanns.

Prosjektrom Normanns is an artist-run space in Stavanger dedicated to the production and exhibition of experimental, site-specific projects, established in 2018 and directed by the visual artists Elin Melberg and Margrethe Aanestad. The simultaneous collaborative exhibition with Aanestad and Melberg will present new Dating jente Norway by the artists including textile, drawing, sculpture and painting. Read more about the exhibition here. This Saturday evening, join Kunsthall Stavanger for a special performance with artists Hanne Lippard and Bendik Giske. In conjunction with Hanne Lippard's current exhibition at the Kunsthall titled, Ulyd, the artist will collaborate with musician Bendik Giske to create a performative dialogue that lingers between the lines of linguistic content and abstract melody. Bendik Giske (Smalltown Supersound) is a saxophonist and composer whose work explores the tension between the performative and corporeal boundaries of the instrument and his body. Fusing extended techniques with elements that draw from electronic music, his work traverses genre. His collaborations include music for dance, performance - and visual art as well as installations. We are pleased to welcome Violet Dennison to the Kunsthall Stavanger Artist Residency this month. The residency's accommodation is situated on the beautiful Gandsfjord outside Stavanger, and provides each resident with the possibility to work peacefully in serene surroundings.
Each residency will result in a project at Kunsthall Stavanger such as an exhibition, presentation, performance, or other event. Violet Dennison is the second resident in 2018, and she will be staying onsite in Stavanger from October 11 - November 2. In her work, Dennison investigates paranoia, power, and self expression, while exploring our relationship to the ecologically and technologically unstable world. Vast systems become fragile or hacked, and small parts of the whole such as code, DNA and bacteria become principal actors, questioning the role of infrastructure and its ability to shape human behavior and language.
On October 25 at 19:00, the artist will give a lecture presenting her practice at Kunsthall Stavanger.

Founded in the year 1040, and established as a kaupstad or trading place Norwa 1048 by Harald Hardrada, the city was elevated to jdnte bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V of Norway around 1300.
